In Star Wars Leia is played by Carrie Fisher. One thing that really surprised me in The Force Awakens was the Leia really isn't in this movie I mean she's in it but not as much as she has been in past Star Wars movies. Now Leia is the general of the Resistance and she's going through the hard time of losing her son Ben Solo or Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) to the dark side and she's also trying to find her brother Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). My prediction for episodes 8 and 9 is that now that Luke has been found I think we'll see a lot more original characters like Leia, C3-PO (Anthony Daniels), and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker). One thing I really liked was that they really showed the emotion going through Han (Harrison Ford) and Leia because they talk about when Kylo Ren falls to the dark side that same day Han runs off and leaves Leia because he blamed himself and once they are re-united they're kind of standing away from each other in shock but once we see each other we see that Han and leia love we're used to seeing Star Wars which honestly is awesome because its not too much or not to little it's perfect. So I think now Luke is found we'll see a whole lot more Leia action at least I hope because her lack of screen time in this movie was kind of stupid. Leia in The Force Awakens was really cool but she should've been given a lot more screen time.
